Mikayla Rutgers '21 Recruiting Profile

Basketball is a game that will forever have an impact in my life. It was the first sport that I was ever drawn to. It began when I was in 3rd grade playing our local Recreation Department league when I knew that I loved it. Being 6'0", growing up I was always taller than everyone, but when I started playing basketball it made me stand out in the best possible way. Then in about 7th grade I began playing AAU and thats when I began to learn so much more, not only about the game but about myself too. I have learned to set goals for myself and most importantly follow through with those goals that I set. Going into my sophomore year of high school I found out that I tore my labrum in my left hip. This meant that I was out for about 6 months including my first varsity season. Those 6 months were not easy for me, but during that time off I learned 2 things. First was the amount of love I have for the game and thats something that I don't want to lose. Secondly, my future matters to me. I had so much time to think and I care greatly about my academics and what to go into something in the STEAM field. I am a passionate, driven, hardworking individual who's looking forward to what comes.
