I have always loved hockey, even before I was born. The first time my Mom felt me kick was at an AHL Calder Cup playoffs game when the Houston Aeros scored the first goal. I learned to skate at two, started playing hockey at three and never stopped. Playing hockey in Texas is different. While my friends all played football, I was passionate about being at the rink and never took a season off, playing house hockey, select teams, and summer leagues.
My goal for college is to graduate with a degree in computer science, and to play hockey for my school as much as is possible. I am tall, nimble, and keep in condition by swimming and playing water polo. I believe that hockey is a physical sport, but it is becoming more about skill than brute strength. To improve my abilities, I spend time out of practices and training sessions working on various techniques.
I am very determined and won't ever give up, whether it be in a game, practice, academics or anything else. I work as a referee, sing in the varsity choir, and volunteer teaching kids to swim.
I am part of the IB program, study hard, and maintain an above-average GPA. I understand that academics always come first, but hockey is a close second and if I can ever find a way to arrange my schedule to have more ice time, then I will do so in order to try to become the best player I can possibly be.
